Liability Protections for Physicians Treating Medicaid

Posted By Fraser Cobbe, Monday, January 3, 2011

According to the Miami Herald, a report released by Florida’s outgoing chief financial officer says that a proposal by the state’s governor-elect to offer physicians immunity against lawsuits in exchange for accepting Medicare patients could cost the state up to $69 million per year. The plan assumes that more physicians would be willing to accept Medicare patients, but it also would make taxpayers responsible for all medical liability claims up to $300,000. The article notes that the report was commissioned by the outgoing financial officer after he lost to the governor-elect in the most recent election.
