FOS Secures Major Grant for Playground Project

The FOS is extremely pleased to announce the support from Gulf Coast Community Foundation for the Playground Project at Laurel Park.

The Foundation provided a $47,500 program grant from the Community Health Endowment Fund to support construction of a state-of-the-art playground and fitness trail in Laurel Park. The project is a collaboration with Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, Laurel Civic Association, and the Florida Orthopaedic Society. Dubbed "Generation Play,” it will create a wheelchair-accessible playground with features to encourage multigenerational play at the Laurel Park trailhead of the Legacy Trail.

Medical Benefit Changes included in 2012 PIP Reform are effective January 1, 2013.   The PIP reform legislation passed in 2012 has two seperate effective dates for it's provisions.  The changes in the medical benefits in PIP do not take effect until January 1, 2013.  This includes the lower $2,500 for non-emergency care and the elimination of massage therapy and acupuncture.  The 2012 Florida Legislative Session ended March 9th.  A review of all the major legislation is available in the Advocacy and Political Action Special Interest Group of this site.  The Florida Medicare contractor has now posted the revised fee schedules for all payment localities.
